Since its launch in 2008, Fendi's Peekaboo bag has become one of the masterpieces of Roman craftsmanship. The Peekaboo bag is simple and elegant in design. The inner compartment makes the bag stiffer and more high-quality. The single handle design allows women to exude an elegant and confident temperament when carrying it. Since its launch in 2009, this handbag has been loved by many women with a strong female image.

The name of the Peekaboo bag is inspired by the childhood favorite game of "Peekaboo". The original intention of designing this bag is that when the buckle of the dignified and elegant handbag is opened, the bag mouth will naturally droop, forming a unique "smile" arc, thus revealing the playful and cute design inside. Sometimes the inner layer will show the eyes of a little monster, just like a kitten hiding in the bag and poking its head out, cleverly echoing the name Peekaboo. This design not only showcases the luxurious craftsmanship inside, but also gives the bag a unique sense of fun and surprise.

Crafted from supple leather, the Peekaboo bag features a sophisticated design and is finished with the brand's signature horn locks on both sides for an added touch of luxury. The interior is lined with tone-on-tone Nappa leather and features a sturdy partition that divides the interior space into two sections. There is also a zippered pocket inside for storing small items. All metal fittings are gold-plated, making the overall design more noble and elegant. The handbag comes with a handle and a detachable and adjustable shoulder strap, which can be carried in a variety of ways, including hand-held, shoulder or cross-body, flexibly responding to different occasions and needs, perfectly demonstrating Fendi's ultimate pursuit of details and excellent control of craftsmanship.

Silvia Venturini Fendi, the accessories creative director who created Peekaboo, once shared that the Peekaboo series is a "family heirloom" she gave to her daughters. In this issue of "Supreme", we have the honor to interview Silvia Venturini Fendi to learn more about what "heirlooms" mean to her, the special features of this season's Peekaboo Soft series, and her unique insights into the materials and craftsmanship of the Peekaboo series.

How does this season’s Peekaboo Soft bag fit in with Fendi’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection?
This season the focus is on soft textures. Take the Peekaboo bag as an example. We redesigned it, removed all the hard edges, and added an adjustable shoulder strap to create the Peekaboo Soft. The design also abandons complicated decorations, retaining only exquisite leather and pure colors.

How does this season’s Peekaboo bag reflect Fendi’s design philosophy and heritage?
In addition to the new version, Peekaboo always represents understated luxury and high-quality materials. Even though its structure has been softened, this bag remains our instantly recognisable icon. I wanted to interpret it with a softer perspective and a fresh attitude, but still respect the original codes and DNA of the bag.

If you had to choose one of this season’s Peekaboo bags for everyday use, which one would you choose?
I really like the subtle treatment of colors by Peekaboo Soft, which perfectly presents a very natural feeling. The leather is dyed in an extremely natural and delicate way, making the overall texture more harmonious and soft.

How has the design and functionality of the Peekaboo evolved since its inception?
We love to innovate and experiment, but always stay true to our heritage. The design of the Peekaboo bag evolves with the seasons, with new styles such as the Mini and Peekaboo Soft, which offer clever and sophisticated variations in size and wearability. At the same time, we have innovated in materials and craftsmanship, while always maintaining its unique character and classic architectural design. It's really gratifying to see a good idea continue.

Can you share some insights into the materials and process that go into making the Peekaboo bags?
When I created the Peekaboo bag in 2008, I really wanted to revive the traditional skills of leather makers. Today, at our Fendi manufacturing center in Capannuccia near Florence, our artisans are offered comprehensive training to develop their versatile skills. In the past, each craftsman was only responsible for making part of the work. This model of only making handbag handles throughout his life would make the craftsman feel alienated from the brand and the handbags. In view of this, we now have each handbag completed by the same craftsman from start to finish. Some craftsmen even like to sign their names in hidden places as their mark.

What does the Peekaboo bag mean to you personally?
I think this is a treasured item that you would want to be part of your family heritage. Buying a Peekaboo is not only for current use, but also for the future. You'll probably continue to use it for years to come, and your daughter might become interested in it and even secretly take it from your closet to use! This bag will always be a classic in our history and will only gain in value over time.

How does Fendi address sustainability issues in the production of its Peekaboo handbags?
We firmly believe that responsible practices lead to truly responsible products. That’s why we carefully select the highest quality materials, ensuring they are sourced and processed in an environmentally friendly and responsible manner. Through continuous research and innovation, we continue to improve our practices in sustainable development, strive to better protect the environment while meeting our customers' love and expectations for our products.

Is there anything special you would like to share with our readers?
I think carrying a Peekaboo symbolizes a very strong, confident and powerful person who is not afraid to show their true self. When you have your Peekaboo, you feel a sense of certainty and confidence, and I hope that feeling will continue into the future and become a part of your life.
