To celebrate its 150th anniversary, Audemars Piguet has launched the new Royal Oak "Jumbo" RD#5 Ultra-Thin Flying Tourbillon Chronograph. After five years of development, the team has, for the first time, integrated the two high-complication functions of a flying tourbillon and a flyback chronograph into the ultra-thin case of the Royal Oak "Jumbo," paying tribute to the brand's rich history with a limited production run of only 150 pieces.

Futuristic design
Since its debut in 1972, the Royal Oak "Jumbo" has become a design classic with its bold octagonal bezel and "Tapisserie" dial. The new design continues this spirit, creating a classic 39mm size and an ultra-thin 8.1mm thickness. The case is made of titanium and paired with the brand's in-house developed Block Metallic Glass (BMG), which is lightweight yet tough and scratch-resistant. BMG contains more than 50% palladium and is rapidly cooled to form an amorphous structure, exhibiting a mirror-like metallic luster and adding a futuristic feel to the overall design.
Furthermore, the bezel, pushers, and crown selector are also crafted from BMG, featuring a multi-layered polished and matte finish. The bracelet combines titanium with BMG links, showcasing a layered interplay of light and shadow. The dial is in Audemars Piguet's signature "Bleu Nuit 50" hue, adorned with a delicate "Petite Tapisserie" pattern, paired with 18K white gold luminous hands and rhodium hour markers, creating a harmonious yet profound overall effect. Symmetrical blue snail-shaped chronographs at 3 and 9 o'clock enhance readability and balance. The case back is engraved with "1 of 150 pieces," symbolizing its commemorative rarity.

The accuracy of instant jump minute timing
The watch is powered by Audemars Piguet's new 8100 automatic movement, which is only 4 millimeters thick. This ultra-thin structure integrates highly complex functions and boasts a power reserve of at least 72 hours. The movement's innovation lies in its rare "instantaneous minute chronograph," ensuring that the minute hand moves with extreme precision and instantaneity every hour, rather than the traditional gradual movement.
Audemars Piguet engineers developed a patented "gear and pinion" system to prevent hand jitter while simultaneously resetting the chronograph to zero, showcasing Audemars Piguet's unique insights into chronograph design. Furthermore, this is the first time the Royal Oak "Jumbo" series has integrated a flyback chronograph and a flying tourbillon into a single timepiece. The intricate structure of the flying tourbillon is visible through the dial, further highlighting Audemars Piguet's exceptional strength as a leader in high-complication watchmaking.
