Collaborations between artists and luxury brands are commonplace, but collaborations like those between Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami, which consistently create timeless classics, are truly rare. Following the globally acclaimed "Monogram Multicolore" years ago, this legendary duo has joined forces again to infuse the brand's classic Capucines bag collection with new vitality, proudly launching the Artycapucines VII collaboration.
The Re-evolution of the Classic "Blank Canvas"
Since its launch in 2019, the Capucines collection has been Louis Vuitton's premier platform for showcasing its commitment to top-tier craftsmanship and artistry. Named after Rue Neuve-des-Capucines, the Parisian street where the brand opened its first store in 1854, the Capucines bag's elegant silhouette has been seen as a "blank canvas" for contemporary artists. To date, the collection has collaborated with over 30 internationally renowned artists, including Beatriz Milhazes, Ugo Rondinone, and Zhao Zhao.
The latest installment in Artycapucines VII features Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami. Born in Tokyo in the 1960s, the master is known for his unique pop art style, which blends traditional Japanese painting, science fiction, anime, and kawaii characters. In this collaboration, Murakami offers 11 unique interpretations of Capucines bags, even working with the Louis Vuitton team to completely redesign the size and structure of some of the bags.

From colorful smiling flowers to dreamy dragon embroidery
The collection focuses on a range of Takashi Murakami's imaginative and iconic themes, including his most famous "Monogram Multicolore," the smiling flower, pandas, and mushrooms. Louis Vuitton's atelier experts brought these ideas to life using traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology. Highlights include the Capucines Mini Tentacle, inspired by Murakami's sculpture of his "other self," Mr. DOB, transformed into a playful octopus; the Capucines EW Dragon, a bag reimagined with exquisite craftsmanship, faithfully recreating Murakami's 18-meter-long masterpiece, "Dragon in Clouds – Indigo Blue" (2010); the Capucines BB Golden Garden, showcasing elegance with its refined leather inlay and shimmering gold leaf; and the sculptural Panda Clutch, crafted from silver brass and hand-set with 6,250 rhinestones.
In addition, the Capucines EW Rainbow reimagines the bag's structure and size, featuring Takashi Murakami's signature rainbow flower pattern; while the Capucines Mini Mushroom incorporates one hundred fantastical mushrooms created by the artist, hand-polished and embroidered onto silver mirrored canvas. All bags in the entire Artycapucines VII collection will be released in highly limited quantities and have already been unveiled globally at Art Basel Paris.
