The Moonlight Gala, held annually at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Fort Clay, Ontario, is a major event in the Canadian art world. This June, the Moonlight Gala, themed "Morrice in Venice," combined contemporary art with classic paintings, inviting prominent guests from across the country to participate in the grand event.
A multi-sensory feast
The gala was not only visually stunning, but its culinary experience was also a major highlight. The main banquet was prepared by the renowned culinary team "The Food Dudes," with the menu designed by award-winning Indigenous chef David Wolfman. This menu combined contemporary cuisine with cultural narratives, allowing guests to experience the call of the land and tradition through their taste buds. Furthermore, Stratus Vineyards, Canada's first LEED-certified winery, provided the evening's wines, whose origins and flavors echoed the gala's shared commitment to the environment and art. The musical performances culminated in a high-energy show by "The Collective," creating a night of dancing under the stars, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the rhythm of art through a multi-sensory experience.

This year's Moonlight Gala also served as the opening night for the exhibition "Morrice in Venice." Curated by renowned Canadian art historian Sandra Paikowsky, the exhibition focuses on interpreting the Venetian landscapes as depicted by James Wilson Morrice. The exhibition features a selection of canvases, sketches, and drawings, showcasing how Morrice captured the tranquil and poetic side of this water city with light and color, from quiet alleyways to shimmering waterways, revealing the artist's meticulous observation and precise technique.

Art, community, and nature converge
All proceeds from the event will go towards the maintenance and display of the museum's collection of over 7,000 works, as well as support for various educational outreach programs and the preservation of outdoor installations. These funds are a key driving force behind McGregor's initiatives to promote arts education for children and youth, and help the museum, nestled amidst forests and trails, maintain its unique blend of nature and culture. This year's event was co-chaired by Debra Fenwick and Laura Mirabella, with Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca and Ontario MPP Stephen Lecce serving as honorary co-chairs. That evening, artists, curators, business leaders, and cultural representatives from across the country gathered to advocate for Canadian art.

Nestled in 100 acres of woodland in North Won, the museum enjoys a beautiful environment with distinct seasons, providing art lovers with a space for reflection and inspiration. From its collection to education, from exhibitions to ecology, every resource raised is not only invested in the museum itself but also flows towards a future where art lives in everyone's daily life.
