In an era where sports watches emphasized steel cases and functionality, one timepiece has always forged its own path. Born in 1979, the Piaget Polo revolutionized the market with its all-gold design, combining sportiness with the texture of jewelry in a single timepiece. More than forty years later, the Swiss haute horlogerie brand Piaget returns to that pivotal year, launching the new Piaget Polo 79 Two-Tone, recreating classic proportions and the luster of precious metals.
Double gold design details
This Two-Tone version continues the horizontal raised stripe design of the original 1979 model, extending from the case to the integrated bracelet with clean and crisp lines. The difference is that this time the design is presented in alternating white gold and yellow gold. The brushed white gold structure forms the overall base, while the polished yellow gold stripes stand out under the light, creating a subtle yet striking contrast.
The 38mm case diameter maintains classic proportions, and the integrated bracelet fits snugly on the wrist, making it resemble a gold bracelet when worn. This was also how Yves Piaget described the watch: it is both a bracelet timepiece and a timepiece bracelet. The two-gold version has a more modern look while retaining the sporty elegance signature of the Polo series. The dial also echoes the interplay of metals, with a solid gold base and brushed gold hands, creating a unified and cohesive design.

Ultra-thin movement and wearing experience
Beyond its appearance, the ultra-thin movement design is also noteworthy. The watch is powered by the brand's in-house 1200P1 automatic movement. The movement is only 2.35 mm thick and features a micro-rotor, allowing the watch to maintain its slim profile. Ultra-thin watchmaking has been a strength of Piaget since the 1950s, with the Altiplano series being a prime example, while the Polo 79 brings this technology to a sporty style.
Flipping the watch over the transparent case back reveals the meticulously polished movement and gold rotor, which gleam with a warm luster under light. Its slim design allows the timepiece to slip comfortably between the cuffs, seamlessly blending into both formal occasions and everyday wear. This balance between sportiness and elegance is one of the reasons the Polo series has attracted collectors for so many years.
