In support of Canadian art, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection held its annual Moonlight Gala fundraising event in early June. More than 450 guests gathered that evening to enjoy a gourmet feast, tastings of Ontario wines provided by Stratus Vineyards, private exhibition tours, and music and dancing under the stars on a tranquil summer night.
The event was co-chaired by Debra Fenwick and Laura Mirabella, and featured remarks from Executive Director and Chief Curator Sarah Milroy and Honorary Co-Chair, Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca. Guests also had the opportunity to interact with local dignitaries, such as King Mayor Steve Pellegrini, as well as a number of philanthropists, gallery owners, and Canada’s top artists.
Funds raised from the gala will directly support the McMichael Canadian Art Collection’s exhibitions, education and outreach programs, as well as the maintenance of sites and trails along the Humber River Valley. In her speech, event chair Debra Fenwick pointed out: "I believe that everyone, like us, recognizes the healing power of art and nature, and these two forces are perfectly combined in this place where we are now. The reason why this place is so shining tonight is not only because of the bright moonlight, but also because of McMichael, a cultural treasure that we all share."
Moonlight Gala 2024 is not only a celebration of Canadian art, but also a testament to the strong community support that supports the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. The event highlighted the unique combination of art and nature that the McMichael embodies, cementing its status as a treasured cultural institution. Moonlight Gala 2024 not only celebrates the development of Canadian art, but also bears witness to the deep support of the Toronto community for the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, establishing its status as a Canadian cultural treasure.
