The New Era of Electric Luxury

by Pure Luxury

Since automobiles entered our lives, space versus performance, comfort versus control have always seemed to be at opposite ends of a scale. Now, Cadillac, with its all-new three-row all-electric SUV, the VISTIQ, attempts to find that silent middle ground between weight and agility. Positioned between the LYRIQ and ESCALADE IQ, the VISTIQ combines luxury and practicality, offering a new option for families seeking a high-quality driving experience.

The VISTIQ is equipped with a 102 kWh battery pack, and its dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivers 615 horsepower and 650 lb-ft (approximately 880 Nm) of torque, achieving a 0-96 km/h acceleration time of just 3.7 seconds in Velocity Max mode. Its driving range is approximately 483 km, sufficient for daily commutes and long-distance travel.

Inside, the VISTIQ features a three-row seating design, providing a spacious and comfortable ride. A standard 23-speaker AKG Studio sound system, paired with Dolby Atmos®, creates an immersive audio experience. Furthermore, the standard Super Cruise driver assistance technology allows for truly hands-free driving on highways, enhancing driving safety and convenience. In terms of design, the VISTIQ continues the characteristics of the Cadillac electric vehicle family, featuring a unique Black Crystal Shield grille and vertical headlights, showcasing modern aesthetics and brand recognition. The body lines are sleek, and the Mondrian pattern design on the D-pillar adds an artistic touch while providing privacy for third-row passengers.

The VISTIQ, the brand's latest three-row all-electric SUV, emerged between the LYRIQ and ESCALADE IQ, not only generating buzz in the automotive world but also sparking new imaginations about the future of luxury driving. To gain a deeper understanding of the VISTIQ's design philosophy and technological highlights, *Supreme* magazine invited Jeffrey MacDonald, the VISTIQ's chief engineer, to discuss this all-electric vehicle that combines power and elegance, technology and sensory experience.

Positioned between the Lyriq and Escalade IQ, the VISTIQ fills a gap in the luxury electric SUV market. How do you think the VISTIQ differentiates itself from competitors such as the Kia EV9 or Rivian R1S?

The VISTIQ was created for consumers who crave a vehicle that is both bold and refined, prioritizing both driving experience and passenger comfort. We've crafted a truly luxurious three-row all-electric SUV, emphasizing spaciousness and thoughtful details. In each row, passengers can enjoy independent air conditioning, ample room, and the natural refreshment offered by a fixed panoramic sunroof in the third row.

Meanwhile, the VISTIQ's performance is uncompromising. From its 0-96 km/h acceleration in Velocity Max mode (3.7 seconds) to the smooth ride provided by Adaptive Air Ride Suspension, it stands out from the crowd. Active Rear Steer makes this large SUV feel as agile as a small car, while in-car technology further enhances the human-vehicle interaction. Standard features include Super Cruise driver assistance, an AKG 23-channel sound system, and Dolby Atmos immersive sound experience—all unique sensory experiences of the VISTIQ.

You once said that although the VISTIQ is a three-row SUV, it handles like a smaller vehicle, providing a "sense of isolated precision." What is the inspiration behind this design philosophy?

This is precisely the "precision within isolation" experience we speak of. Cadillac's 120 years of automotive expertise has given us a deep understanding of how to strike a balance between luxury and driving dynamics. While the VISTIQ is a three-row large SUV, it boasts excellent weight distribution and road feedback. The driver can feel its weight within its lightness, its spaciousness within its agility. We didn't just want it to "drive like a small car," but rather to retain the prestige and presence of an SUV while providing agile handling and precise feedback. This is a new definition of luxury—not necessarily aggressive, but exhilarating nonetheless.

What is it like to actually drive Active Rear Steer? How does it help with city driving?

This technology automatically adjusts the rear wheel steering angle based on vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. When the vehicle is traveling at low speeds, such as when turning in parking lots or alleys, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction, reducing the turning radius and making the vehicle more agile and effortless. On highways, the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels, enhancing stability and handling confidence. This system isn't just for show; it genuinely improves the driver's control and sense of safety in various road conditions. Whether you're in a congested city or on a straight highway, the VISTIQ gives you the illusion of a "smaller vehicle," a truly exceptional driving experience for a three-row SUV.

Cadillac has always emphasized consistency in its design language. How does VISTIQ strike a balance between performance, technology, and brand aesthetics?

This is a dialogue between design and function. We first define the functional value of each technology and then integrate it into the overall vehicle architecture. It's not about drawing the shape first and then "cramming" in the functions; rather, it's about a human-centered approach, allowing technology and luxury to blend naturally from the inside out. For example, the Super Cruise system's interface is positioned in the most intuitive location for the driver's line of sight and operation; the audio system and lighting ambiance are also meticulously designed using CAD and experimental acoustics to ensure every passenger can be immersed in comfort. From the exterior lines and interior materials to every detail of human-machine interaction, VISTIQ is the best example of "technology serving people."

Canada's harsh winters pose a significant challenge to all-electric vehicles. How did VISTIQ overcome this challenge?

In extremely cold environments, battery performance is prone to degradation, a factor we considered early in the design process. The VISTIQ is equipped with an advanced battery thermal management system that preheats the battery before starting the vehicle, ensuring stable output and range performance in low temperatures. Furthermore, we employ a multi-stage energy recovery mechanism and a highly efficient heating system, allowing the interior to quickly warm up and maintain comfort even when the outside temperature is -20 degrees Celsius. Regarding range, we set a target of 483 kilometers and conducted optimized testing for extreme climates, allowing drivers to confidently embark on their journeys on winter mornings.

VISTIQ's interior uses a variety of recycled materials. Does this conflict with its "luxury" image? Will it go further in terms of sustainability in the future?

We believe that true luxury should coexist with the environment, not be at odds with nature. VISTIQ uses fabrics made from recycled yarn and PU synthetic materials, maintaining a high-quality feel while reducing environmental impact. Interior trim panels such as the headliner, carpets, and pillars all utilize recycled materials, preserving both tactile and visual refinement. Furthermore, we draw inspiration from natural materials, combining them with backlighting technology to create a layered and poetic atmosphere. Moving forward, we will continue to explore more possibilities for environmentally friendly materials and supply chain optimization, making sustainability an integral part of Cadillac's brand design language, not just an added value.
