The latest XC60 Recharge plug-in hybrid remains the kind of luxurious SUV that inspires confidence the moment you sit inside. Volvo's signature safety technology has been upgraded once again. The updated Pilot Assist offers improved lane centering, a clearer 360-degree surround view, and less noticeable transitions between pure electric and hybrid modes. The larger battery extends the pure electric range, allowing for almost silent short-distance city driving. The suspension has also been recalibrated, providing excellent stability on highways and a smooth ride even on the winding roads of Princesshire. The interior maintains Volvo's signature style: clean lines, natural and durable materials, ample natural light without feeling cramped, and a large screen integrating Google's operating system. Navigation, music, and voice control are all easy to use and quickly become familiar.
The drive from Toronto takes about two hours, half highway and half country roads. We first stopped at 100 Acre Wood, a somewhat rugged yet cozy holiday cabin. Outdoors, there was a wood-burning fireplace, and on the table were meticulously prepared home-style dishes—very similar to the XC60 in that neither takes a flashy approach, but rather a warm, detailed, and timeless style. The exterior changes to the XC60 are actually minor; the grille and front lines have been slightly adjusted, so it doesn't immediately seem like a major overhaul, but a closer look reveals it's the updated model. Overall, it follows typical Scandinavian design logic: not rushing to be eye-catching, but slowly building something just right.
Next, we drove to The Wander Resort, a place very similar to the Volvo spirit. Each cabin was simply designed and very comfortable. Storage and layout were clearly planned; there were no unnecessary decorations, yet everything was just right, making it easy to imagine a family staying there for a week, cooking, chatting, and the kids running around outside. In a way, this is also similar to the feeling of the XC60: not something to show off, but something to buy, use quietly for many years, and eventually become a part of the home.
In summary, this updated XC60 is not about completely overhauling the design, but rather enhancing the already well-done aspects, making it safer, smoother, easier to drive, and more Scandinavian than ever before.
