In the open countryside of Chongming Island in Shanghai, a bamboo weaving device stands quietly here. Its smooth and three-dimensional shape is as light as a fluttering ribbon, adding a touch of elegance to the simple natural scenery of Chongming Island. "Bamboo Lane", this bamboo weaving device designed by LIN architects breaks the usual characteristics of suburban life through the shaping of space: Horizontal activity datum and no obvious spatial aggregation. Regardless of children or adults, no matter whether the relationship is familiar or unfamiliar, people are attracted to the uniquely shaped bamboo haze to rest, communicate, shuttle and play.
The new crown epidemic has made it more difficult for people to interact in the real world. The Bamboo Lane built at the end of 2020 is aimed at rethinking the activation of rural public spaces, promoting social interaction through bamboo weaving installations, and helping people return to normal Life trajectory, while encouraging people living in the city to experience and enjoy nature more in their spare time. In Chinese culture, bamboo symbolizes tenacity, vitality, and upright character. At the same time, it is a strong, plastic, and renewable low-carbon and environmentally friendly building material. Bamboo Lane prefers raw bamboo materials that are more original, and are selected, high-temperature steamed, carbonized, and anti-corrosion treated before being transported to the construction site. After being transported to the site, it goes through the processing of positioning, setting out, main structure and secondary structure construction. After the frame is basically formed, the bamboo strips weaved on site are used to complete the skin.
Looking at the bamboo mist from a distance, the lines are simple and smooth, while looking up close, you can feel the complex and delicate structure of the bamboo weaving skeleton and bamboo tubes. Bamboo Lane is a collaboration between LIN architects designers, students and bamboo structure engineering company Jingdao Yuanzhu. From conception, design, to construction, Zhulan embodies the importance of cooperation between people. Now that it has become a part of the landscape of Chongming Island, it can be regarded as an "aggregator" that enables human activities to break through the boundary of the field, and people who usually disperse activities in a small family have more possibilities for interaction. People, scenery and nature coexist harmoniously.
